Day 26

24th October 2016

We were up bright and early as John and David are going to meet Joseph and then travel to Birmingham for a tour of Villa Park. We are splitting up today as I am going out to lunch with Alison at the Red Lion.

The men set off just after breakfast and I got ready for my lunch date.

Alison picked me up at 12.15 pm and we made our way to lunch. It was quite a cold day, so it was lovely to walk into the Red Lion and be greeted by big logs on the fire. We sat next to the fire with our Prosecco's and warmed up a little and were then informed that our table was ready, so we made our way into the beautiful dining room. It was amazing with a huge fireplace right in the centre of the room. A couple of big logs had been placed on it and it was stoked into a lovely warming blaze for us.

We ordered our lunch - we both had Roast tomato & red pepper soup with herb oil and creme fraiche to start and Alison ordered Cajun spiced cod with Bombay potatoes, tsatsiki yoghurt, fennel salad and tempura okra and I had Pan fried seabass with crayfish and chive risotto, roast baby fennel, pea and ham veloute and crispy leeks. Oh it was just gorgeous and we tucked in hungrily. For dessert (pudding) we both had Hot waffles with glazed bananas and banana ice cream. I enjoyed a glass of white wine and after dinner Alison had a pot of tea while I enjoyed a cappuccino. Thank you Alison, once again for this most delicious meal - I am so grateful that we can spend this time together, to be able to talk about anything and everything and just enjoy the company of each other. It really is a special time that will always remain with me.

Alison dropped me off at the Lodge at about 4.00 pm and I had received a text from David to say that they had left the Villa ground and were on the way home. It took them a while on the busy roads and after dropping Joseph off at home, they arrived at 5.15 pm.

Wow, what a day they have had. They were both bearing huge bags of goodies from the Villa megastore and couldn't stop talking about their day's tour. They took millions of photos and I heard all about Aston Villa, its' beginnings, its' winning times, its' club, its' players and while David is a die-hard Broncos fan he is also a die-hard Villa supporter too.

I do not know how David is going to get through customs with all the key-rings he has now got on his backpack. I think he will be setting off every bell and whistle and flashing light at every airport from here to Brisbane! He did have a good time though and so did John (and Joseph, although they are both Manchester United supporters!!), so after talking non-stop for a couple of hours on our days events, we all went wearily to bed.
